Parent Coaching

Parenting is HARD. Get the support you need to show up as the parent you want to be.

As trained child and adolescent clinicians, we get how challenging parenting is.

Struggling With Parenting?

Parenting is one of the hardest (and most important) roles you will ever have, and yet, it's the one we often receive the least training and preparation for. Parenting is so overwhelming; a never ending road of unknowns. Sometimes it feels like you can’t catch a break.

How they get sick and are up all night right before a big work day or something important you need to do. How frustrating and embarrassing it feels when your child is throwing a tantrum in the middle of the grocery store (thank you Whole Foods delivery).

How to navigate sibling dynamics when they’re not getting along. Or the constant worry about their health, safety and well-being. Being on 24/7 is exhausting.

Do you find yourself saying:

  • “Will I ever get to live my old life or be me before becoming a parent?

  • "I lost my cool, and I don’t know what else to do."

  • "My child won’t listen, and I feel like I’m failing."

  • "My partner/co-parent and I can’t agree on how to discipline our kids."

  • “I should have something fun planned for the kids at all times.”

  • “Am I making the right decision; is this best for my child?

  • “I want to give my child the childhood I didn’t have, but feeling stuck.”

If these thoughts are familiar, you’re not alone. We specialize in helping parents like you find practical solutions, find a balance between your needs and your child’s, build better relationships with your children, and feel more confident in your parenting.

How Does Parent Coaching Work?

Parent coaching sessions are tailored to your unique needs. We’ll dive into:

  • Your relationship with your child: Are they listening to you? Are they warm and connected, or are there constant conflicts? Do they open up to you and share with you what’s going on?

  • Your emotional regulation: How are you handling your own stress and reactions? Are you struggling with your own anxiety, depression, ADHD or health issues and parenting is too overwhelming?

  • Your childhood: How does your own upbringing influence your parenting today? The word “childhood” can elicit tons of different emotions particularly for those who had a difficult one. Have you processed yours or are you noticing your unresolved childhood trauma is triggering unhealthy parenting habits?

  • Your relationship with your partner/co-parent: Are you having frequent disagreements with your partner or co-parent about parenting decisions? How do your parenting styles align or clash? What is the toll that parenting has taken on your relationship? Is intimacy lacking and you’re feeling disconnected?

TESTIMONIAL

"Before starting parent coaching, I felt overwhelmed and exhausted. My child’s outbursts felt uncontrollable, and he wasn’t listening. I didn’t know how to respond in a way that actually helped. I often found myself reacting out of frustration rather than guiding my child through their emotions.

Working with Dr. Smith was truly transformative. I learned practical tools to stay calm and consistent, and I gained a deeper understanding of what my son was really communicating through his behavior. Instead of power struggles, we feel more connected. Best of all, less fights with my husband about them too. The outbursts haven’t disappeared completely, but they happen less often and I feel much more equipped to handle them when they do.

What once felt like chaos is now something we can navigate together. I’m so grateful for the support and insight coaching gave me. It has made a lasting difference in our home and our relationship.”

Parent Coaching & Child Therapy Techniques We Use

You Don’t Have to Be a Perfect Parent.
You Just Have to Be Present.

A family of three, a woman, a man, and a young girl, lying close together on a couch, smiling and sharing a joyful moment.

Society places so much pressure on parents to be perfect, but the truth is, your child doesn’t need perfection. What they need is your presence—your ability to be there, to admit when you’re wrong, and to model growth and emotional resilience.

Working with a therapist can help you:

  • Be confident in your parenting choices

  • Develop healthy ways to manage your own stress and emotions

  • Build warmer relationships with your child

  • See improvements in your child’s behavior

You’ll also learn how to model emotional regulation so your child can follow your lead. It’s about creating a calmer home environment where you and your child can thrive.

TESTIMONIAL

“Dr. Shaneze was such a gift to us and our son. When we came to her, we were all very stressed out by what felt like the impossible demands of middle school. We were butting heads with our child, compounding the challenges he was already struggling to cope with. Within a few months of working with Dr. Shaneze, we were experiencing far less friction at home, and our son was coping much better with school demands. Most significantly, our son became much more warm and open to us, knowing we had become a team. Dr. Shaneze has a very easy way of communicating, and her advice always felt straightforward and simple to follow. She is deeply understanding and practical and has a very natural way of communicating what were routinely spot-on insights.”

As a Mom and Childhood Trauma Survivor, I know firsthand the difficulties in raising a child while healing from your own childhood. I am licensed to provide therapy in 41 states.

With over a decade of experience as a trained child and adolescent psychologist, I’ve helped families navigate everything from ADHD and anxiety, OCD to chronic illnesses. My medical background allows me to offer an integrative pediatric approach, supporting both emotional and physical health. I’ve worked in hospitals, with children facing life-threatening illnesses, and now focus on helping parents build the skills they need to support their children and themselves.

I have particular expertise in working with cycle breakers- parents who are raising children while healing from their own past. For many childhood trauma survivors, becoming a parent can bring up unexpected emotions, triggers, and fears as old wounds resurface in new ways. Parenting may highlight unmet needs from your own childhood, unresolved grief, or fears about repeating harmful patterns. Together, we’ll work on reparenting yourself—learning how to offer yourself the compassion, safety, boundaries, and emotional support you may not have received growing up. I’ll help you manage triggers, build healthier parenting patterns, process grief, and feel more grounded and intentional as you create a different legacy for yourself and your children.

I specialize in working with families with neurodiverse children and children with developmental disabilities. I am licensed to provide therapy in New York, New Jersey & Texas.

Being a parent is the most important job we will do in our lifetime. Although, it is not something all want for themselves, for those of us who get the privilege, we want to ensure we are doing our best. In order to do that, we need support. Support is all the more important when raising children with developmental or social disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Mood Disorder believed to adjust to Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) in adulthood, and others.

For almost a decade I worked directly with the Developmental Disabilities population, with a number of years being dedicated to going in home. During this time I aided parents in learning skills and understanding to better relate to and raise their child in a happy/healthy environment. I am now resolute in supporting parents continue this work in therapeutic sessions of their own. This work includes understanding your a-typical child, learning skills to better support them, realizing when parenting styles aren’t working, and building to the best version of yourself.

Because, we should all be pouring from a full cup… Let get to work!
